What is Hardscape?

The two major subcategories of landscape are hardscape and softscape. Hardscape refers to the non-living elements of landscaping such as patios, pergolas, retaining walls and water features like ponds and fountains. Hard materials like stone, concrete, and wood are used in a hardscape design.

Tuatara Landscapes provides endless hardscape designs to produce aesthetic results guaranteeing your satisfaction. Our hardscaping services include:

Patios

Patio stones can add outdoor social space to your yard. It creates an area in your yard for people to mingle with each other so it can be useful for hosting outdoor parties. You can put furniture to make it a comfortable place. There are many other types of patios like tile patio, concrete patio, flagstone patio, and brick patio. Each type has its own characteristics and benefits. Hence, choosing a particular type of patio depends on how you want to enhance the outdoor area of your house.

Pergolas

A pergola is an outdoor structure consisting of vertical pillars. The purpose of pergolas is to have an area to sit and relax. The most common material used to make pergolas is wood. However, it can be constructed with other materials such as metal, brick, stone, PVC.

Retaining Walls

A retaining wall is a structure designed to retain soil. Retaining walls can be built from concrete, rocks, bricks, and wood. Using wood to construct a retaining wall is a poor choice because it has a short lifespan. Stones or rocks can create aesthetically pleasing retaining walls. However, it can be expensive. Leveling out uneven sections of your yard, solving drainage problems, to add seating, to provide the structure for stairways or patios are some of the reasons for building a retaining wall. Other than the practical reasons, retaining walls are also built simply to add more appeal.

Steps

Homeowners have steps constructed due to any slopes on their land. Most outdoor steps are made from stone. Steps can also be built from concrete but stone is preferred due to its aesthetics and durability.

Water features

A water garden or fountain can make your outdoor area stand out. It will draw attention and make your yard more appealing. Nothing is more pleasing to sip on a coffee while sitting by the side of your fountain. The water features can be a great relaxing abode.

Raised Beds

A raised bed is a form of gardening where the planting bed sits on top of your existing soil. The bed is enclosed by a frame which can be made of wood, stone, brick or concrete block. One can grow any sort of plants in a raised bed – be it fruits, vegetables, small trees, and alpines. The benefits of raised beds are drainage improvement, increasing soil temperature, enhance root health, extend planting season, and serve as barriers to pests.

If you want to have a new hardscape design or update it, we are here to make your vision of the ideal outdoor space into a reality. Tuatara Landscapes transforms the average looking outdoor area into an extraordinary one.
